The Ovechkin Project

This time, I teamed up in 2010 with long-time sportswriter Gare Joyce. As you can tell, I’ve always enjoyed working on books as part of a team. This one was interesting because it started out with the Capitals being very helpful, and ended up with Alexander Ovechkin refusing to be interviewed for the book and Washington owner Ted Leonsis being enraged with how the book turned out. Apparently they wanted more of a PR effort. Which probably means it’s a much more interesting book than it otherwise might have been. It follows Ovechkin through a shocking playoff defeat at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens and his disappointing performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Superstars don’t always win.
